Victoria Falls National Park

Where the Zambezi River creates Earth's greatest curtain of water

The Zambezi River drops 354 feet into a narrow gorge here, creating what locals call "Mosi-oa-Tunya" — the smoke that thunders. Victoria Falls National Park protects this natural wonder on the Zimbabwean side, where you can walk right up to the edge and feel the spray on your face. The park covers just 56 square kilometers, but every meter counts when you're dealing with one of the world's most powerful waterfalls. You'll hear the roar from two kilometers away.

Itineraries coming soon

We're working on adding amazing itineraries for Victoria Falls National Park. In the meantime, try the app to create your own!

The Main Falls Trail runs 1.8 kilometers along the gorge rim — this is the money shot. It's paved and mostly flat, taking about an hour if you stop at every viewpoint. Danger Point offers the closest view of the main curtain, but you'll get soaked during high water season. The Boiling Pot Trail drops 200 meters into the gorge via a steep zigzag path. Your legs will burn on the way back up, but you'll see the falls from below and watch the river squeeze through a 60-meter gap. Allow three hours round trip. Look, there's also the Bridge Walk to the Victoria Falls Bridge — technically in no-man's land between Zimbabwe and Zambia. You can bungee jump from here if your travel insurance covers questionable life choices.

Money-Saving Tips

  • 1.Entry fees are cheaper if paid in USD cash rather than using credit cards with foreign transaction fees
  • 2.Buy a multi-entry visa ($55) if you plan to cross between Zimbabwe and Zambia multiple times
  • 3.Pack your own lunch since park concessions are limited and overpriced
  • 4.Stay in Victoria Falls town rather than luxury lodges to save $200+ per night
  • 5.Book helicopter flights directly with operators rather than through hotels to avoid markup

Travel Tips

  • Visit Danger Point early morning when lighting is best for photography and crowds are thin
  • Bring a waterproof camera case or disposable camera for close-up shots near the falls
  • Check water levels before visiting — too high and you see only mist, too low and it's less impressive
  • Wear dark colors since white clothes show water stains and spray marks clearly
  • Download offline maps since cell service can be spotty in the park
