A 20-room boutique hotel inside the historic Villa Mathilde — a Wilhelminian villa built in 1884 on Norderney's western tip, steps from the beach. The facade glows white from the approaching ferry, and no hotel on the island sits closer to the North Sea. After more than five years of restoration, the neighboring Villa Olga was incorporated into the property, adding space and the floor-to-ceiling windows that now make the sea the main event in almost every room.

Junior Suite
Two units, each 35 sqm, with whitewashed brick walls and moorland oak furniture giving it a grounded, tactile feel. An open floor plan divided by a half-wall and a floor-to-ceiling built-in shelf keeps the space airy and connected, while a separate sleeping area with King bed sits beside large sea-facing windows. The sofa converts to a bed, making this the best option for families.

Owner's Suite
The top of the house — 70 sqm of open-plan living with a 16 sqm terrace pointing straight at the North Sea. A kitchen island with wine cooler, separate living and dining zones, and a private bedroom make it feel more like a holiday apartment with hotel service than a standard room. Dogs are welcome here (declared at booking). The pale Nordic color palette and fruit basket on arrival set the tone.

This is where the sea comes into the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows face directly out to the North Sea and Weststrand beach, with a sitting nook right in front of the glass. No balcony, but the unobstructed view compensates. Sizes vary across units; each has a distinct design identity.

The most popular category — same direct sea view as the Seaside Deluxe but with a proper balcony between 10 and 16 sqm. Large enough to eat breakfast on. Each unit is designed differently: brick walls with cognac leather in one, cream country-house style in another, modern wood and fabric wallpaper in a third. Worth noting: one bathroom has a floor-to-ceiling window so you can shower while watching the sea.

At 53 sqm on the first floor, the Suite is the most apartment-like feel without going full Owner's Suite. A modern kitchen line separates the sandy-beige living and dining area (with balcony access and a padded dining nook) from the separate bedroom. Dual-aspect windows on both sides mean the suite is bright regardless of orientation, and the balcony offers side sea views.

The entry-level room at 1884 and honestly not a compromise. Modern, warm interiors with leather headboards, pendant lights, and a proper sitting area. Faces the land side — some have a partial sea glimpse, some don't. If the view matters most, book up the range.

Same footprint and position as the Superior but with a playful retro design thread — pastel green accent wall, wood-frame bed, vintage pendant lamp. A bit more personality for a similar price point.

The UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea (Wattenmeer) stretches around Norderney. Guided and self-guided mud flat walks are a local institution — the visitor center Watt Welten is about 20 minutes on foot from the hotel.
Norderney's Weststrand is literally at the hotel's doorstep — about 80 meters. North Sea swimming is bracing rather than tropical, but the wide white sand beach is the real draw.
