The Circle
Retro-futuristic — pastel tones, rounded forms, vinyl records, and astronaut art, all inside a listed 1950s circular landmark building. Think Fritz Lang meets the Wirtschaftswunder.

Why It Matters
The building itself earns the visit. Its sweeping rotunda corridors, iconic cylindrical shape, and the Aisslinger-designed interiors make it one of the few hotels in Germany where the architecture genuinely competes with the views. Add a rooftop bar staring down Cologne Cathedral and a proper Mediterranean restaurant — and you have a hotel that locals actually go to, not just tourists.
A former Gerling insurance company rotunda — think 1950s West German Brutalism — turned into one of Cologne's most distinctive hotels. Berlin design studio Studio Aisslinger ran with a retro-futurism concept, and the result is 207 rooms that oscillate between pastel nostalgia and space-age utopia. The 8th floor is the real draw: NENI restaurant and the Monkey Bar share floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace with a direct sightline to Cologne Cathedral.
