45 Park Lane
Modernist shell, Art Deco interiors. Club-like intimacy without the stuffiness. Feels younger and more playful than its sister property The Dorchester next door — think contemporary British art on every wall, a steakhouse that draws a crowd, and a bar that actually gets loud on a Friday night.
The higher the floor, the more London opens up — worth asking at booking time
Why It Matters
Only 45 rooms, all with Hyde Park views. Wolfgang Puck's CUT is his sole London outpost. Sushi Kanesaka earned a Michelin star within seven months of opening in 2023. A rotating contemporary art programme curated by Lily Ackerman features artists including Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake, Joe Tilson and Christian Furr. The 10,000 sq ft subterranean spa has Park Lane's longest pool at 20 metres — included for all hotel guests. The building is connected to The Dorchester via a 120-metre underground tunnel.
Forty-five rooms, every one facing Hyde Park. That is the whole pitch, and it works. Built in the 1960s to a design by Walter Gropius — yes, the Bauhaus founder — and previously best known as a Playboy Club, the building was stripped back and reinvented by interior designer Thierry Despont when Dorchester Collection opened it as a hotel in September 2011. The result is Art Deco sensibility with a contemporary edge: custom-made furniture, marble bathrooms with mirror TVs, original British artworks by the likes of Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake in every room. Add Wolfgang Puck's only European restaurant downstairs and a Michelin-starred Japanese omakase counter tucked upstairs, and this is one of the most quietly confident small hotels in London.
