A 4-star boutique hotel inside Palazzo Arezzo di Donnafugata, a nobleman's residence built in 1768, sitting right on Ragusa Ibla's Piazza Duomo. The hotel takes the original stone vaults, frescoed ceilings, and antique Sicilian furnishings and pushes them up against bold contemporary artworks and modernist designer pieces — the contrast is very much the point. Nine rooms and two suites, each named after a historical figure and decorated as its own individual character. Adults-only. No spa, no pool. What it does have is one of the best breakfasts in Sicily and a location steps from the cathedral in a UNESCO World Heritage site.
