Aalernhüs hotel & spa
Warm, family-run North German coastal retreat — maritime colours, underfloor heating in every bathroom, a fireplace in the lobby, and a Nordic no-fuss approach to hospitality. Think cosy rather than flashy.
Book the Aalernhüs Suite (75 sqm, furnished sun terrace) for the most space and the walk-in wardrobe.
Why It Matters
Largest spa complex in St. Peter-Ording, a 16,000 sqm private garden with rare outdoor pool, a family history spanning four decades, and genuine owner-operated warmth that OTA reviews consistently single out.
The AALERNHÜS — Frisian for 'parents' house' — is a 5-star boutique hotel on the North Sea, opened in 1986 by Werner Lüders and now run by his daughter Claudia Gerlach and General Manager Björn Zierow. It sits between the 'Bad' and 'Dorf' districts of St. Peter-Ording, surrounded by 16,000 sqm of garden that backs directly onto a pine forest and leads to the dyke. The biggest draw: the 1,000 sqm spa, which is the largest in all of St. Peter-Ording, with a year-round indoor pool, a seasonal outdoor pool unique to the town, three saunas, and a full treatment menu.

How you'll actually spend your days.
In-house rental bikes available directly at the property, ideal for exploring the Eiderstedt peninsula. The forest path behind the hotel leads straight to the dyke.
The hotel's own woodland access leads directly from the garden to the dike — a ready-made jogging or Nordic walking route without getting in a car.
Hotel-referred partner activity: learn to ride a kite buggy on the sand, powered by the wind. Available with expert tuition or for a few hours of independent fun.
State-of-the-art cardio equipment plus two Peloton bikes. A monitor in the yoga room allows guests to do personalised Peloton sessions when it's available. Free for hotel guests.
9-hole course right on the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. Reduced green fee vouchers available at the hotel reception.
A grass tennis court in the hotel's own garden, open daily 09:00–20:00. Rackets and balls available for loan at a deposit. Good for casual games with the family.
The hotel partners with the Schutzstation Wattenmeer in St. Peter-Ording to organise exclusive guided mudflat walks through the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea.
Additional group fitness classes offered on-site alongside yoga. Pilates focuses on core, pelvic floor, and back. Back Fit targets core stability. BBP (abs, legs, glutes) rounds out the offering.
On-site yoga sessions led by instructor Daniela Lafrentz covering Hatha, Gentle, and Yin styles. In warmer months, sessions move to the garden. Pre-registration required by the evening before (at reception or by phone).
