Why It Matters

One of the few all-suite ryokans in Hokkaido on a lakefront setting. Every suite has a private open-air onsen bath, and the all-inclusive drinks policy (covering the bar, foot bath, restaurant, and in-room minibar) is unusually generous for a property at this level. The ryokan is within reach of four national parks and is closely linked to Ainu culture and craftsmanship.

Hinanoza sits right on the edge of Lake Akan, one of Hokkaido's most remote and stunning corners. All 25 rooms are suites with private open-air hot spring baths — there are no standard rooms here. The name 'Hina' means home, and the ryokan leans into that idea: natural wood throughout the interiors (you can actually smell it), locally carved Ainu artwork in the common areas, and kaiseki meals served in private tatami rooms with no extra charge for drinks.

Where You'll Stay

5 room types available

Ama no Za 天の座 Suite
Premier Suite

Ama no Za 天の座 Suite

The largest and most coveted suites in the ryokan. Four rooms total, all facing the lake. You get a tatami mat room, a separate living room, a full bathroom, and a private open-air bath — and from all three main spaces you can hear waves lapping the shore. Comes with a massage chair. These are the ones worth requesting.

Kasumi no Za 霞の座 Suite
Suite

Kasumi no Za 霞の座 Suite

Three suites on the second floor only, all with lake views. At 60–69 sqm they're among the more compact options, but the lake-facing position compensates. Notably, guests in these rooms can have kaiseki dinner served in-room rather than in the restaurant.

Suite

Kaze no Za 風の座 Suite

Eight rooms with partial lake views — the most numerous category in the hotel. Ranging from 61–78 sqm, they vary noticeably in size, so there's some variance in the experience. Still all-suite with private open-air baths.

Mori no Za 森の座 Suite
Suite

Mori no Za 森の座 Suite

Six rooms facing the Akan forest and town rather than the lake. The trade-off is a more private, forest-enclosed feel. Stone open-air bath adds warmth. Japanese-Western style with nostalgic decorative touches. If lake views aren't the priority, these can be good value relative to the lake-facing categories.

Umi no Za 湖の座 Suite
Deluxe Suite

Umi no Za 湖の座 Suite

Four lake-view suites with a more open, flowing layout than the Ama no Za. The rooms connect into one another and draw the eye naturally toward the lake. Slightly smaller than Ama no Za but still generous at 88–94 sqm. A solid choice if the top category is unavailable.
