Why It Matters
A Relais & Châteaux member and one of the very few genuinely special hotels in Upper Egypt. Every one of its 54 suites is individually designed. The kitchen sources almost entirely from its own 10-acre organic farm. The library holds over 7,000 books on Egyptian and Middle Eastern history. And it has a 37-metre early-20th-century dahabiya moored nearby for private Nile charters.
Al Moudira translates literally as 'the boss' — a fitting name for the most commanding property on Luxor's West Bank. Created by Franco-Lebanese designer Zeina Aboukheir in 1999, the hotel is built in traditional Arabesque style around 10 private courtyards, filled with antique furnishings she sourced from across the Middle East, hand-painted frescoes, and materials salvaged from vanishing historic buildings. Surrounded by 10 hectares of palm groves, organic gardens, and a working farm, it sits far from the east bank tourist crush — closer, as it happens, to where most guests actually want to be: the Valley of the Kings.

Translates as 'House of the Artists' — it has hosted the artists who painted Al Moudira's frescoes. Two spacious suites and a separate bedroom in a large, well-tended garden setting. Smaller and more intimate than the other villas.

At 100 sqm, the Family Suite is the largest suite category in the main hotel. A double king bed in the main room connects via its own door to a separate twin bedroom — both with their own en suite bathrooms and separate access.
