ALBERGO GELSOMINO
Historic Italian colonial meets contemporary Greek luxury. Think bold painted feature walls, parquet floors, velvet sofas, marble bathrooms, and freestanding ceramic baths. Small, exclusive, and genuinely atmospheric rather than just old.
Always request a sea-facing suite — city-view rooms face a busy boulevard and multiple guests report street noise at night.
Why It Matters
The first hotel ever built on Kos, and the only one inside Kos Town that sits right on the beach. The building itself is a registered landmark — 1927 Italian rationalist architecture in the Dodecanese. The award-winning Gelsomino Restaurant draws non-guests for dinner. Only 8 suites means the whole operation is tightly controlled.
Albergo Gelsomino is the oldest hotel on Kos — designed in 1927 by Italian architect Rodolfo Petracco as a guesthouse for Italian colonial officials. After sitting largely unchanged for 90 years, it was meticulously restored and relaunched as a luxury boutique hotel with just 8 suites. The building stands directly on Kos Town beach, its back terrace canopied by a pergola resting on century-old original pillars, its front entrance opening onto Akti Miaouli Street a minute's walk from the ferry port.
