Ask for a Deluxe Room or Deluxe Suite — they face the Tagus and the step up in size (from 19–36 sqm) is worth it compared to interior-facing categories

Why It Matters

The hotel is physically built around a Roman-built arch — the Arco das Portas do Mar — that predates the 12th-century structure itself, making the architecture as much a feature as the rooms. The location on Campo das Cebolas puts you 100 meters from the Tagus, a 5-minute walk from Praça do Comércio, and right at the foot of Alfama's cobblestone maze.

AlmaLusa Alfama is a 25-room boutique hotel built into a 12th-century landmark on Campo das Cebolas square, right on the edge of Alfama by the Tagus River. The building incorporates the Arco das Portas do Mar — a Roman-era archway that was once part of Lisbon's medieval defensive walls — and the canary-yellow Pombaline facade makes it one of the most immediately recognizable buildings on the waterfront. It's the third property in the AlmaLusa brand, which has made a name for itself by rescuing and converting historic Portuguese structures into contemporary boutique stays.

Where You'll Stay

7 room types available

Deluxe Room
Deluxe

Deluxe Room

19 sqm with river views and King or Twin bed flexibility. The sweet spot for couples who want the Tagus view without suite pricing. Slightly larger than the Mini Deluxe and with bed configuration options. One Deluxe Room connects to a Single Room for family use.

Deluxe Suite

The top category at 36 sqm — more than double the Single Room. River views, a small living area, minibar, and King or Twin bed configuration. The Time Out reviewer called it 'instantly welcoming' with a forest-painted feature wall and cloud-soft bed. Three Deluxe Suites can connect to Superior Rooms for family stays. This is where you actually feel the space open up relative to other categories.

Interior Premium Room

At 21 sqm, this is the largest non-view room in the hotel and the most flexible for configuration — King bed or two Twin beds. Same interior patio aspect as the Interior Room, but slightly more floor space. Good pick for two travelers who want flexibility on bed configuration without paying the river-view premium.

Interior Room

19 sqm facing an interior patio that gets natural light. Quiet and comfortable, though no river or street view. Fits two. Upgrade to 55" Smart TV versus the Single Room's 43". Same Mediterranean design language with warm tones and botanical details.

Mini Deluxe Room
Deluxe

Mini Deluxe Room

The entry point into Tagus River views. At 17 sqm it's actually smaller than the Interior Room, but what you're paying for is the outlook: direct river views from a Queen-bed room. Compact by any measure, but the view does a lot of heavy lifting. Good pick when budget is a factor but you still want the river.

Standard

Single Room

The smallest option in the house — 15 sqm with a Cathedral view. Works well for a solo traveler on a short trip. Mediterranean-style decor, 43" Smart TV (smaller than other categories), power shower, and the same Colmol Spa Premium mattress with percale cotton sheets you get throughout the hotel. One-person capacity only.

Superior Room

20 sqm with a Cathedral view — one of the more atmospheric outlooks in the hotel. Queen bed, 55" Smart TV, power shower, same quality bedding throughout. Can connect to a Deluxe Suite for families. A solid mid-tier pick if you're drawn to the Sé Cathedral view over the Tagus.
