NAKIJIN
Architectural minimalism taken to its logical extreme. Pure white surfaces, custom OLTREMATERIA flooring, no decorative objects, no art on the walls. The view is the only thing to look at — and it's the East China Sea spreading out across the horizon from the north-facing cliff. Silent, intentional, slightly surreal.

Why It Matters
Featured in the MICHELIN Guide and listed on Tablet Hotels. Designed as architecture first and hotel second, Shinichi Ogawa & Associates' linear structure has become a reference point in minimalist hospitality design — covered by ArchDaily, Minimalissimo, and architecture press worldwide. Only five rooms. Ever.
Five suites in a single white concrete box perched on a cliff 160 metres above the East China Sea. That's the full concept. Completed in 2020 and designed by Hiroshima-based Shinichi Ogawa & Associates, ALMIS NAKIJIN (formerly known as Emil Nakijin) is about as stripped-back as luxury gets — all-white interiors, no restaurant, no spa, no front desk. Each suite opens through oversized custom stainless steel sliding glass doors onto a private terrace with an infinity pool and open-air bath. The entire building is 309 square metres, which means nothing here is wasted.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Each room's iPad is loaded with the owner's personal recommendations for local beaches, restaurants, sightseeing, and activities across the Motobu Peninsula. Nearby highlights include Nakijin Castle Ruins (14 min), Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (20 min), and Kouri Island (20 min).
An outdoor soaking bath on every suite's private terrace. A morning bath with the East China Sea in front of you is — by all guest accounts — the highlight of the stay.
In addition to the private per-suite pools, there is a shared outdoor swimming pool on the property.
Each suite has its own private infinity pool on the terrace, facing north over the East China Sea. Not a shared amenity — entirely yours for the duration of your stay. Note: the water can be cold through mid-spring.
