Alpenloge Hotel
Modern alpine design lodge — puristic, nature-forward, owner-run with a genuine home feel. Think Scandi minimalism crossed with Allgäu farmhouse warmth: natural timber, botanical prints, fleecy throws, and a chef who cooks like there's a Michelin inspector at every table.
The restaurant is closed Thursdays and Sundays — plan your stay to include at least one dinner night (dinner from 6:30pm)
Why It Matters
Holds 1 Michelin Key. Former 1930s Bavarian schoolhouse gut-renovated to Passivhaus eco standards. Only 9 rooms, all uniquely designed, with chef Mark Beastall's daily-changing 3–4 course dinner menus earning near-universal praise as Michelin-star level cooking. Located at the precise four-country junction of Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria.
Alpenloge is a nine-room design boutique hotel built on the footprint of a 1930s village schoolhouse in western Allgäu, Bavaria. Owners Anja Schott-Engelke and Michael Schott spent five years sourcing the furnishings — Schramm beds, Nor11 and Fredericia chairs, Berker 1930s-collection light switches, Nicolazzi fittings — before opening. The building reads like a traditional shingled Bavarian chalet from the outside, but inside it's clean-lined contemporary interiors with natural timber, concrete accents, and floor-heated bathrooms. The nine rooms are called 'Logen' and named by compass direction; sit at the junction of Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria; and the in-house restaurant with chef Mark Beastall is the kind of quietly extraordinary cooking that draws repeat guests back on its own.
