Altapura
Retro-70s Alpine chic meets Scandinavian cocooning. Warm larch wood, earthy tones with pops of color, fur throws, noble materials. Their own phrase — 'Friendly Luxury Sport Hotel' — sums it up well: serious skiing credentials without the stiff formality.

Why It Matters
Direct ski-in/ski-out access to the Plein Sud chairlift and the 3 Vallées' 600km of terrain. Inspired by Charlotte Perriand's landmark 1970s Alpine architecture. Run by the Goitschel family — legendary in French ski history — who launched Val Thorens in the early 1970s. Green Key certified for sustainable tourism. Won World Ski Awards France Best Ski Hotel 2022. Michelin Guide listed 2025.
At 2,300m, Altapura sits directly at the foot of Val Thorens' slopes — Europe's highest ski resort — with a chairlift (Plein Sud) accessible steps from the front door. The design draws on Charlotte Perriand's 1970s Alpine aesthetic: larch trunks inlaid into a majestic staircase, ochres and browns, vitamin-color accents, and soft Scandinavian fabrics. It's a 5-star property that manages to feel genuinely sporty rather than stuffily grand, with 88 rooms, three restaurants, a 1,000m² spa, an in-house Goitschel ski shop, and a kids' corner — all in one building.
