Why It Matters

One of the oldest continuously operating inns in Europe, dating to 1465, with a documented Mozart connection (he stayed in 1769 with his father). Completely gut-renovated in 2021 by award-winning noa* architecture studio, turning a crumbling relic into Innsbruck's most talked-about boutique property. Listed in both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels.

A 4-star boutique hotel that has been operating since 1465 — and yes, Mozart checked in here in 1769. Fast-forward to 2021: owners Thomas and Brigitte handed the place to South Tyrolean architecture studio noa*, who unleashed what they call 'chic-shock-baroque' on the interiors. The result is 48 individually designed chambers spread across five floors, each a riot of color and personality. No two rooms are alike, and that's partly by design, partly because the 560-year-old building had its own ideas. The 6th-floor loft bar, Blaue Brigitte, is where you check in, have breakfast, and come back for cocktails — it does triple duty with genuine flair.

Balcony Double
Double

Balcony Double

The blue rooms with a private balcony — ideal for stepping outside for fresh alpine air. Small balconies, but genuinely useful in a pedestrian-zone hotel where outdoor space is at a premium.

Besenkammer

Besenkammer

The hotel's most audacious room: a deliberate tribute to every terrible review the old Weisses Kreuz ever received. At 13m², it is genuinely tiny — 'a closet of sorts,' as the hotel itself admits. But it has a king bed, a small patio with a swing, an industrial design, and Boris Becker tennis rackets on the wall. For quirky guests who travel light and find the joke funny.

Double Stube

A double room (not a full suite) that incorporates original historical Stuben features. Designed for guests who want a taste of Tyrolean heritage without committing to full suite rates.

Golden Roof Suite

At 50m², this is the largest room in the hotel and the one with the best view: a direct sightline over Innsbruck's famous Golden Roof. The golden rain shower is a knowing wink at the landmark. Private champagne bar included.

Large Double

Large Double

The largest standard double, finished in the hotel's most 'feminine' palette: lilac and purple. Runs 28–33m² depending on the specific room — useful headroom given the ancient building's irregular geometry.

Medium Double

Medium Double

The blue double rooms — the hotel's core mid-range option. Finely decorated bathrooms (not brand-new, the hotel is upfront about this) but plenty of space. A solid, well-priced entry point into the Weisses Kreuz experience.

Small but not spartan — 16–20m² with either a patio, balcony, or good view, plus ceiling heights only a 500-year-old building can offer. A smart budget pick if you spend most of your time out in the city.

Mozart Suite

The hotel's flagship room — and the most storied. Mozart actually slept here in 1769, and the suite is designed as a tribute to the child prodigy. It comes with a full-size billiard table (apparently Wolferl was a keen gambler) and a private whiskey-and-liqueur bar. At 44m², it's the second-largest room in the house.

Stuben Suite

A suite that leans into the building's history rather than fighting it. Retains original 'Stuben' elements — the traditional Tyrolean parlour-style panelling and fixtures — blended with the hotel's signature contemporary design.
