Amanbagh
Mughal-revival luxury resort. Architectural bones drawn from the Mughal empire era — arched colonnades, onion domes, latticed stone screens, terracotta hues. The mood is deeply serene and deliberately slow. Wellness and outdoor adventure both get serious attention here.

Why It Matters
Designed by American architect Ed Tuttle, one of the original Aman architects. The property occupies land once used by the Maharaja of Alwar as a hunting compound. It's one of only two Aman properties in India. The in-house Ayurvedic physician and multi-day wellness immersions set it apart from most Indian luxury resorts. Close to the Bhangarh ruins — arguably India's most atmospheric heritage site.
Amanbagh sits in the Aravalli Hills — an oasis of mature palms, fruit trees and flowering shrubs that was once the Maharaja of Alwar's staging ground for royal tiger hunts. Today it's one of the Aman brand's most distinctly Indian expressions: rose-hued Mughal domes and carved sandstone colonnades frame 37 suites around a 33-metre central pool. The surrounding landscape is genuinely extraordinary. A 17th-century abandoned ghost city called Bhangarh is a short drive away; Sariska Tiger Reserve, home to wild tigers and leopards, is 45 minutes by car.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A guided visit to the 17th-century ruins of Bhangarh — a national heritage site that was abandoned overnight and is reputedly haunted. Palaces, temples, pools and bazaars are preserved amid giant ficus trees. About 15km from Amanbagh. Go at dusk for maximum atmosphere.
A late-afternoon Jeep excursion through rural Rajasthani villages as livestock return home. Stops include ancient temples, local forts and a genuine welcome from village families over chai. The golden-hour dust haze is spectacular.
A guided walk through Amanbagh's kitchen garden, which supplies the restaurants. Learn about Ayurvedic medicinal plants and their uses in both treatment and cooking.
A guided morning walk through the Ajabgarh countryside, led by long-term Amanbagh staff. Covers local history, flora, fauna and rural landscape. A consistent guest favourite and the best way to meet fellow travellers.
Complimentary morning yoga sessions held in the resort gardens. Included for all guests with every stay.
Hands-on Indian cooking class held in an atmospheric open-air earth-walled courtyard in the resort gardens. An expert chef guides guests through spice blending, masalas and traditional Rajasthani dishes.
A full-day guided excursion to Jaipur with a personal guide. Covers the Pink City markets, heritage sites and the best spots for silk carpets, gemstone paintings, silver jewellery, saris and antiques.
Riding on rare Marwari breed horses through the Aravalli countryside, with stops at local villages. One of the more singular activities in Rajasthan.
Once the personal hunting ground of the Maharaja of Alwar, Sariska is 45 minutes from Amanbagh. The reserve is home to tigers, wildcats, caracals and Sambar deer. Amanbagh can arrange guided safaris.
A hike through a dramatic gorge to reach Somsagar Lake, built in 1598 during Emperor Akbar's visit to Ajabgarh. Marble blocks polished over centuries line the shores. A resort picnic is set up on arrival. Can extend to the Meena village of Kala Para.
Private yoga and meditation session at the hilltop Pratapgarh Fort, built in 1775 by the first Maharaja of Alwar. Perched above the Aravalli Hills with wide-open views. One of the spa menu's spiritual illumination experiences.
