Why It Matters
The only resort on Moyo Island; a pioneer of the luxury tented camp genre (Condé Nast credited it as such at opening). Sits within Moyo Satonda National Park and a protected marine park. Saleh Bay, just east of the island, hosts the second-largest whale shark population on earth — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The entire island can be privately booked for groups taking eight or more tents.
Amanwana — meaning 'peaceful forest' — is the only resort on Moyo Island, a protected national park in the Flores Sea east of Bali. Opened in 1993 and designed by Jean-Michel Gathy without felling a single tree, it pioneered the luxury tented camp concept and still operates just 17 tents on its beach-fringed bay. The setting is genuinely wild: rusa deer wander between the tents, macaques slide down tent poles at dawn, and whale sharks patrol the bay just minutes offshore.

Jungle Tent
Fully enveloped by the tropical canopy, Jungle Tents are the most immersive nature option. Birdsong drifts in through picture windows that frame the forest. Rusa deer have been known to graze right on the private terrace. The interior is identical in footprint and comfort to the other tent categories, but without direct beach or sea access — jungle tent guests use a shared beach deck.

Positioned directly on the shoreline, the Ocean Front Tent has uninterrupted views of the Flores Sea the moment you open your eyes. Hardwood floors and coral stone, a large bathroom with dressing area, twin vanity, and separate shower — no bathtub. Picture windows frame the shifting seascape. The outdoor deck with loungers sits right on the sand.

Set back from the shoreline, Ocean View Tents offer glimpses of the Flores Sea through the tropical foliage rather than an unobstructed front-row position. Mornings arrive with sunlight through wide picture windows and the sound of waves drifting in.
