Amerikalinjen
Maritime heritage meets New York cool. Think Norwegian design classics (Birger Dahl lamps, Hadeland Glassverk), original building features, and a playful transatlantic identity that runs through every space — from the Wes Anderson-esque room styling to a jazz club named after the line's founder.

Why It Matters
Holder of a Michelin Key 2025, member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2018, and recognised in Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Reader's Choice Awards. Pier 42 bar won Best Cocktail Bar in Norway two years running and was named Hotel Bar of the Year 2026 by Falstaff Bar Guide. The property also sits on Historic Hotels Worldwide's 2025 Top 25 Most Historic Bars and Lounges list.
Amerikalinjen opened in 2019 in the restored 1919 headquarters of the Norwegian America Line — the shipping company that ferried nearly a million Norwegian emigrants to the United States. The building is a neo-baroque landmark on Jernbanetorget Square, right next to Oslo Central Station, and 86 rooms sit behind its grand facade. Grand staircases, vintage elevators, high ceilings, and framed historical sailing menus are all still here. But so is a seriously award-winning cocktail bar and a proper basement jazz club.
