Why It Matters
Costa Rica's most architecturally ambitious resort, designed by local architect Ronald Zurcher to echo the organic forms of native flora and fauna. Located on a private, gated peninsula shared only with the Four Seasons and a handful of residences. The 2023-2024 renovation elevated it into one of the most complete resort experiences in Central America — spa, golf, five pools, six restaurants, and 100+ weekly activities on 1,400 acres.
Perched on a hillside inside the gated, 1,400-acre Peninsula Papagayo, Andaz Peninsula Papagayo sits above Culebra Bay with views that follow you everywhere — from the open-air lobby (armadillo shell roof, hanging lanterns, ocean panorama) to the river-stone shower in every room. Designed by Costa Rican architect Ronald Zurcher, the architecture mimics the shapes of jungle creatures: no walls where walls aren't needed, buildings that breathe. A major renovation completed in late 2023 added 25 multi-bedroom residential villas, a revamped beach club (Casa de Playa with restaurant Meso), and a redesigned Ostra restaurant.
