Heufler by Norbert Niederkofler
Historic Renaissance manor meets restrained Alpine contemporary. Warm woods, stone vaults, period antiques — all with larch-floor comfort. The mood is intimate and scholarly, not flashy. It feels like someone's ancestral home that happens to serve excellent food.
Book well in advance — only 10 rooms total and this opened under a three-Michelin-star chef
Why It Matters
Opened May 2025 under three-Michelin-star chef Norbert Niederkofler, who extended his celebrated Cook the Mountain philosophy from kitchen to the entire property. The Herrenstube is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance parlours surviving in Tyrol. Only 10 rooms, no pool, no spa — this is about the architecture, the food, and the mountain landscape.
A 1580 Renaissance manor in the quiet Anterselva Valley, Ansitz Heufler is now Norbert Niederkofler's intimate base camp for his Cook the Mountain philosophy. Ten suites occupy a three-story noble residence — stone arches, carved wooden doors, frescoed ceilings — updated with warm Alpine timbers, marble baths, and wide valley views. The Herrenstube, with its 16th-century Swiss-pine panelling and green tiled stove, is one of the finest preserved Renaissance interiors in the entire Alpine region. This is not a spa hotel or a full-service resort. It is a small, historically serious place run by a serious chef.

The 16th-century Herrenstube (Hearnstube) is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance parlours in Tyrol: entirely encased in gleaming Swiss-pine panels with intricate inlays and centred around a centuries-old green tiled stove. The original frescoed ceilings, carved doors, and vaulted stone corridors throughout the manor make the building itself an experience.
The valley sits at the heart of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Summer trailheads for hikes to mountain lakes, ridges, and glaciers start near the property. Trails range from valley walks to multi-day routes.
A turquoise-green glacial lake surrounded by forests and 38 three-thousand-metre peaks. In summer, a swimming and walking destination. In winter, conditions sometimes allow for cross-country skiing on the frozen lake.
