Boutique Hotel
Calm, literary, and intentionally slow. Scandinavian minimalism meets Slovenian artisan craft. It reads more like a well-designed private apartment than a hotel — deliberately so. No pool, no gym, no spa. The point is the building, the breakfast, the book you brought with you.

Why It Matters
One of the most thoughtfully preserved historic small hotels in Central Europe. Featured in The New York Times, Forbes, National Geographic, and The Times. The building has housed cobblers, masons, a winemaker, a stonecutter, a painter, a potter, a woolmaker, and a sockmaker since 1550 — and the hotel leans into every layer of that story. The hallways double as a rotating gallery for Slovenian art.
A family-owned, eight-room boutique hotel inside a building that has stood since 1550. The renovation — done by Ljubljana firm P PLUS Arhitekti — preserved original stone walls, a 16th-century wooden ceiling, a fresco in the dining room, and exposed brick, then layered in bespoke furniture made by local craftsmen, restored mid-century armchairs, and handmade tableware by Slovenian potter Barbara Skubic. Rooms are furnished in solid wood, linen, and wool on oak floors with underfloor heating — and notably, there are no TVs. The whole property is allergy-free and runs on a hyper-local sourcing philosophy from food to toiletries to art.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A deep-dive into pour-over and espresso craft, led by expert baristas from Stow Coffee Roasters at their specialty coffee shop beneath the City Museum of Ljubljana. Stow supplies all coffee to the hotel.
Learn to cook traditional Slovenian dishes and contemporary light meals using seasonal produce from the Ljubljana basin. Bake bread and desserts. Run by local chefs in the hotel kitchen itself.
A small, curated in-hotel shop stocking items used throughout the property — locally made, design-forward objects that guests can take home.
The hotel works with a curated list of local guides who can arrange tailor-made tours of Ljubljana and its surroundings — covering art, architecture, gastronomy, history, or nature depending on your interests. Contact the hotel to arrange.
A hands-on workshop run by Slovenian potter Barbara Skubic — the same artist who made all the tableware used throughout the hotel. Takes place in her studio surrounded by nature in the nearby village of Zaplana. Available for beginners and advanced potters.
The hotel hallways serve as a display space for Slovenian art. Currently showing paintings by Igor Banfi. Accessible to all guests throughout their stay.
