Art House Basel
Urban art hotel with Japandi minimalism. Clean lines, high-quality natural materials, and a genuine curatorial eye. Not precious about it — the vibe is creative and social rather than hushed or formal.

Why It Matters
Designed by Diener & Diener with interiors by Andrea Caputo and Salomé Fäh. The hotel integrates a live gallery program via Colab Gallery. The Terrace Club Suite holds what the hotel claims is the largest private hotel terrace in Basel. It is a Member of Design Hotels and is bookable via Marriott Bonvoy.
ART House Basel is a 4-star design hotel that opened in April 2020 in Basel's Steinenvorstadt district — a pedestrian-only street that pulses with shops, restaurants, and nightlife. The building, designed by architects Diener & Diener with interiors by Andrea Caputo and Salomé Fäh, stands out hard: its dark Alcántara Black hornfels facade (a black hornfels quarried in Spain) is a deliberate contrast to the surrounding Old Town architecture. Inside, 33 rooms across six floors take a restrained Japandi approach — natural woods, stone, marble, Hästens beds, and designer furnishings by Vitra, Artek, and Living Divani. The sixth-floor rooftop bar with two terraces is the social heart of the property, and a rotating gallery program in partnership with Colab Gallery keeps the walls interesting.
