Series - The Larwill Studio
Artsy and playful — Scandi-minimalist bones with Larwill's bold, childlike colour blasted across every room. More creative crash pad than grand hotel, but polished enough to feel deliberate. The art integration goes deeper than most 'art hotels': there's a free art tour led by an in-house Art Advocate, an art library, and art utensils guests can actually use.
Corner Parkview King rooms face both Royal Park and the CBD skyline — worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
One of a small handful of Australian hotels genuinely built around a single artist's vision. David Larwill's expressionist paintings — animated figures, graffiti-tinged slogans, colour everywhere — don't just hang on walls; they're used as the design language throughout. The hotel holds Ecotourism Australia certification and is a Michelin Guide listed property.
The Larwill Studio is a 4-star boutique hotel in Melbourne's Parkville suburb, part of the Art Series Hotels collection under Accor. All 96 rooms — called Workspaces — are hung with original and printed works by the late David Larwill, a Ballarat-born figurative expressionist who co-founded Melbourne's Roar Studios in Fitzroy. The building sits in the commercial precinct of the Royal Children's Hospital on Flemington Road, with Royal Park an 8-minute walk away and the CBD a 10-minute tram ride down the road.
