Domus Giardino
Grand Tour meets sleek minimalism. Crisp white walls and oak herringbone floors share space with Pompeian-hued frescoes and protected 16th-century paintings. Romantic and intimate, with a deliberately secretive garden that guests guard like a local tip.
Book the garden spa in advance — it's only available privately for up to two guests, 11am–7pm, in 1-hour slots
Why It Matters
One of Naples' earliest hotels — the site hosted the 'Aquila Nera' (Black Eagle) inn during the Grand Tour era — now restored as a luxury boutique residence with a garden spa that's bookable only for two guests at a time. The hotel has been declared a site of historical and artistic interest by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Rooms are named after paintings by Artemisia Gentileschi.
Artemisia Domus Giardino sits on the second floor of the 16th-century Palazzo d'Alessandro Pescolanciano in Naples' Santa Lucia district — a building so storied that John Keats slept here (when it was called the Black Angel inn) and Marie Clotilde of France died in these very rooms. The palazzo has been declared a site of historical and artistic interest by the Italian Ministry of Culture, and its restored frescoes, intact stone vaulting, and intricate stuccowork make the interiors feel genuinely rare. Eight rooms, a walled garden with a private spa, and views straight to Castel dell'Ovo.
