Asterion Suites & Spa
Modern Cretan minimalism. Earthy tones, organic materials, and a polished boutique aesthetic. It skips the typical island pastels for a quieter, more considered look — the kind of place that would photograph well but doesn't feel performative about it.
The Panorama Suite's rooftop private pool is the most unique room — book it as early as possible, it sells out first
Why It Matters
One of the few strictly adults-only five-star properties on western Crete, with an unusual beachfront position facing a protected nature reserve island. Every room has a Nespresso machine and Marshall Bluetooth speaker as standard. The rooftop private-pool Panorama Suite is genuinely hard to find elsewhere in the region. The Orion Spa uses traditional Cretan ingredients — olive oil, aromatic herbs, aloe vera — and even features a seaside gazebo for treatments by the beach.
A five-star adults-only hotel sitting directly on Pyrgos Psilonerou beach on Crete's northwest coast, with straight-on views to the Saint Theodore Island nature reserve. Named after Asterion — the mythical first king of Crete — the fully renovated property has 66 rooms and suites done in a clean minimalist style: warm neutrals, organic textures, no stucco or faux-rustic touches. The higher-tier suites come with private plunge pools or swim-up access; the top Panorama Suite has its own rooftop pool facing the sea.

Guided tour of Chania's old town covering Venetian architecture, the Firkas fortress (built 1629, now houses the Naval Museum), and the 16th-century Venetian lighthouse at the end of the pier. About 15km from the hotel.
Visit to the world's oldest recorded olive tree in Ano Vouves, Kissamou — estimated 3,000–5,000 years old, still bearing fruit, with a trunk circumference of 12.5 meters. A proclaimed natural monument.
A nearly 20-hectare park about 18km from Chania with fruit trees, medicinal plants, and ornamental species from around the world. A 1–2 hour nature walk through planted hillside paths. The park has a notable burnt centennial olive tree as its centerpiece — a memorial to the 2003 fires.

A cooking class up in the White Mountains using organic Cretan ingredients — fresh vegetables from the garden, extra-virgin olive oil, local dairy, aromatic herbs. Includes a walk through vegetable gardens, learning about local herbs and Cretan olive oil, and preparing traditional dishes by hand. Followed by Cretan wine and cheese pairing.
A visit to a family-owned traditional Cretan farmhouse with colonial-style outdoor seating and an organic garden. Guests pick raw ingredients from the garden, prepare a traditional Cretan meal cooked in wooden stoves and iron cauldrons, visit a local winery, and finish with traditional sweets and raki.
