At Sloane
French-English fusion. Arts & Crafts meets Parisian seduction. Romantic, intimate, design-forward — every room individually conceived, every detail deliberate.
Ask for the restaurant's private chapel-like alcove down the narrow hallway — it seats four (or two) in total seclusion
Why It Matters
The Costes connection. Jean-Louis Costes is behind Hôtel Costes in Paris — one of the world's great design hotels. This is his London outpost, and unlike many such projects, it more than holds its own. Six years in the making, designed by François-Joseph Graf with a team of French artisans, it feels like a private residence that happens to have a world-class restaurant on the roof and a speakeasy in the basement.
At Sloane is what happens when French hotelier Jean-Louis Costes and his trusted designer François-Joseph Graf get their hands on a Victorian Chelsea townhouse. The building — dating to 1888, designed by Liberty & Co architect Edwin Thomas Hall — spent six years being transformed before opening in 2023, and it shows. Every corner earns its attention: mirrors hiding secret doors, black-and-white celebrity portraits lining stairwells, 300 hand-chosen Chinese vases up top, and a basement speakeasy that has no business being as cool as it is. The whole place runs on atmosphere — a signature house scent, candlelight everywhere, and a soundtrack that tips slightly more Paris than Chelsea.
