Auberge du Jeu de Paume
Grand French country estate. Aristocratic but not stuffy — think well-pressed linen, riding boots in the lobby, and a very good Lounge Bar. The scale of the setting does all the drama; the hotel stays elegantly restrained.
Book a suite with a terrace for private outdoor dining overlooking the park — the hotel offers an in-room dining menu specifically for terrace evenings.
Why It Matters
The only hotel on the Domaine de Chantilly estate, giving guests exclusive proximity — and sometimes privileged access — to the Condé Museum (1,000 paintings including Raphaels), the Living Horse Museum, the Chantilly Racecourse, and one of Europe's top polo clubs. Awarded the Michelin Key for 2024 and 2025.
Sitting right in the grounds of the Domaine de Chantilly — between the Château gardens and the Grandes Écuries — the Auberge du Jeu de Paume takes its name from an 18th-century real tennis court that once stood here. The estate is 7,800 hectares of formal gardens, racecourses, polo fields, and one of France's finest art collections, all 40km north of Paris and 25 minutes from CDG. The hotel itself opened in 2012, and the 92 rooms and suites are done in polished 18th-century French style — toile de Jouy, velvet upholstery, marble bathrooms. And yes, parts of Versailles took their inspiration from Chantilly, not the other way around.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Steps from the hotel, the Château houses the Condé Museum with 1,000 paintings (Raphaël, Delacroix, Ingres, Poussin, Watteau), 5,000 drawings and engravings, and 3,000 works in the Library. One of the finest private art collections in France.
The 7,800-hectare estate has formal French gardens by Le Nôtre, English gardens, the Potager des Princes, and canals. Concierge can arrange cycling within the grounds.
The Chantilly Pony Club accepts children from age 3. Activities include horse-ball, polo lessons, and riding through the estate. The hotel also offers horse stabling for guests who arrive on horseback.
On-site gym with treadmills, ellipticals, and weights. Open 7am–10pm for hotel guests. Complimentary.
Two outstanding courses designed by British architect Tom Simpson in the early 20th century — the Château de Chantilly and Mortfontaine courses. Both balance aesthetic quality with serious competition standards. About 2km from the hotel.
The Racecourse is at the foot of the Grand Stables and holds up to 40,000 visitors. Major annual events include the Grand Prix de Diane and Grand Prix du Jockey Club. Training sessions run every Tuesday — a rare sight the Clefs d'Or concierge can help you access.
Housed in the Grand Stables — originally designed for 240 horses under a spectacular 28m-high dome. Steps from the hotel.
The Chantilly Polo Club is the leading polo centre in Western Europe. In season it stables up to 500 horses and hosts around 500 matches per year. A polo school trains beginners and experienced riders alike. Concierge can arrange access and lessons.
