Russian River
Mid-century modern glamping with an approachable, outdoorsy edge. Think well-traveled design minimalism — Tempur-Pedic mattresses inside polished Airstream shells, Ursa Major toiletries, private fire pits — rather than anything fussy or precious. Guests range from couples on wine-country weekends to families with kids chasing each other across the central lawn.
Premium Airstream suites 7–23 back up to Hulbert Creek for extra ambiance, but the price premium may not be worth it according to frequent AutoCamp guests
Why It Matters
AutoCamp Russian River is the original AutoCamp property — the one that proved the concept and spawned eight more locations across the US. It's the oldest (and smallest, at about 3 acres), but many repeat AutoCamp visitors call it their favorite for its layout, mature vegetation, and location at the crossroads of redwoods, the Russian River, and Sonoma wine country.
AutoCamp Russian River puts you in a grove of Sonoma County redwoods, about 90 minutes north of San Francisco and a stone's throw from the Russian River itself. The concept is simple: custom-fitted 31-foot Airstream trailers arranged in a horseshoe around a central lawn, plus canvas tents and a couple of smaller camper options — all surrounded by mature trees that give each site genuine privacy. The Geremia-designed Clubhouse acts as the social hub, with an open-air indoor fire pit, a General Store stocked with local wines and charcuterie, and complimentary granola and coffee each morning. No restaurant, no pool, no spa. But you're three minutes from the river and five minutes from Armstrong Redwoods Preserve, which is kind of the point.
