Why It Matters
One of the very few countryside hotels in Hungary recognized by the Michelin Guide (Hotels 2024 and 2025). Its on-site Avalon Ristorante has held the Michelin Plate since 2022 and consistently ranks in Hungary's national top-50 restaurant listings. The HONKA log cabins — built with Finnish technology — are genuinely unusual for Central Europe. And the HELL Kart track is one of the more unexpected amenities at a five-star resort.
This five-star Superior forest resort sits inside a five-hectare park complex at the foot of the Bükk Mountains, just under 90 minutes by car from Budapest. Three distinctly different room types — main building rooms and suites, two-story Finnish HONKA log cabins, and the newer Forest Design wing with its own dedicated outdoor pool and sauna — give you real choice. The Michelin Plate–holding Avalon Ristorante and the fire-centered, sharing-plate Club Avalon put the food program well above typical resort fare. You can hike or ski right from the door, spelunk in the surrounding caves, and still be back in time for a sauna master session and Moët by the pool.

The newest accommodation type, housed in a separate building deep in the park. These 15 rooms have private terraces and exclusive access to the Forest Design wing's own outdoor heated infinity pool, balcony jacuzzi, and Finnish sauna — all separate from the main wellness complex. Quietest, most private option on the property. Pet-friendly for dogs up to 10 kg.

These are the signature accommodation at Avalon — 15 two-story log houses built using Finnish HONKA technology, surrounded by the Bükk forest. Each floor (roughly 40 m²) has a completely separate entrance and can be rented independently or together for full house privacy. Each level has a double bed, sofa, and bathroom with bathtub. Sleeps up to 6 adults + 2 children when booked as a full house. Pet-friendly for dogs up to 10 kg.

Trails start directly from the resort grounds into the Bükk forest and wider national park (31 km away). Bike hire available for those who prefer two wheels.
A 580-meter go-kart track set among the trees of the park. Open to guests from age 6. Electric karts — multiple race formats available including qualifying-style races. One of the more unexpected on-site amenities at a five-star resort, and genuinely popular with adults too. The go-kart center also functions as an events venue.
Summer programming includes live music afternoons and evenings across four separate venues: the outdoor stage, MOËT & Chandon Lounge & Sun Terrace, Avalon Ristorante, and The Club Avalon.
A 400 m² indoor play area for all weather. Climbing walls, trampolines, interactive games, and crafts. Supervised by resort animators. Good backup plan on a rainy Bükk day.
A 2,500 m² outdoor playground for children. Games, slides, and open-air family activities. Animators provide childcare supervision from 9am to 8pm, allowing parents to use the wellness facilities independently.
Ski slopes are accessible in the wider Bükk area. The resort is well-positioned as a base for winter skiing trips in this part of northeast Hungary.
The Bükk Mountains are known for their cave systems. The famous Miskolctapolca Cave Bath (thermal spa inside a natural cave) is a 15-minute downhill walk from the resort. The motorized Avalon train can bring you back uphill for a small charge.
The on-site wine salon hosts tastings with sommelier guidance. The Ristorante's wine list has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence two years running — the cellar is taken seriously.
