A 270-year-old Emmental country inn spread across three late Baroque buildings that are collectively classified as a monument of national importance. The restaurant (Gasthof Bären, 1752) and the guesthouse (Kreuz, 1806) face each other across the village street in Dürrenroth, with a 1744 seminar building rounding out the ensemble. Host Volker Beduhn took over in 2009 and has since added a proper wellness house with four saunas and seven theme suites — some with private saunas, whirlpools, and fireplaces built right into the room.

Rosen Suite
Set in a 17th-century vaulted cellar. The atmosphere is quite something — stone walls, low arches, and a whirlpool. Comes with a cozy sitting area. Unique among the suites in that it lacks a private sauna but compensates with the extraordinary medieval setting.
Small Single Room
Compact, functional single room. 90x200cm bed. Simple and affordable option within the historic guesthouse.
Veranda Suite
Also in the 200-year-old outbuilding, this suite adds a private porch for outdoor lounging to the same Finnish sauna, whirlpool, and fireplace setup as the Stöckli. Good for warmer months when you can actually use the terrace.
Wellness Suite Dachgiebel
Under the wooden roof gable in the Kreuz attic. Cozy and warm, heavy on wood, with a private sauna, steam bath with integrated shower, and whirlpool directly in the room. Air-conditioned.
