Bären Dürrenroth AG
Contemporary Classic & Quiet — rustic Emmental charm meets modern wellness. Heavily floral, historically atmospheric, very Swiss. The kind of place where creaking floorboards and original beams coexist with Nespresso machines and Himalaya-salt infrared saunas.
The Metzgerstübli (former butcher's shop, max 12 people) is the most intimate dining space — worth specifically requesting
Why It Matters
Listed as a Swiss Historic Hotel and a monument of national importance. Three original late Baroque Emmental buildings dating to 1744–1806, all on the village square beside the late Gothic church. Rated 4.7/5 by 629 verified Romantik Hotels guests.
A 270-year-old Emmental country inn spread across three late Baroque buildings that are collectively classified as a monument of national importance. The restaurant (Gasthof Bären, 1752) and the guesthouse (Kreuz, 1806) face each other across the village street in Dürrenroth, with a 1744 seminar building rounding out the ensemble. Host Volker Beduhn took over in 2009 and has since added a proper wellness house with four saunas and seven theme suites — some with private saunas, whirlpools, and fireplaces built right into the room.
