Bath Priory
Classic English country house with Gothic architectural character, refined but not stuffy. Floral fabrics, antiques, art-filled hallways, and the smell of well-kept gardens.
Book the restaurant well in advance — it only serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday
Why It Matters
Built on land once owned by Bath Abbey, the house was converted into a hotel in 1969 and acquired by the Brownsword family in 1994. It holds 3 AA Rosettes for its restaurant and houses the only L'Occitane-branded spa in the United Kingdom. Also a Relais & Châteaux member.
A Gothic-style stone manor built in 1835, The Bath Priory sits on a quiet residential road on the west side of Bath, surrounded by four acres of award-winning formal gardens. It's a proper country house hotel — antique furniture, original artwork, Vispring beds — close enough to walk into the city but worlds apart in atmosphere. The 3 AA Rosette restaurant, the UK's only L'Occitane spa, a heated outdoor pool, and 33 rooms full of period character make this one of the more complete country house escapes in England.
