Baumanière
Old-money Provence meets serious gastronomy. Stone farmhouses, tree-lined paths between buildings, three pools, a high-end Sisley spa, and one of France's great wine cellars. It feels like an estate run by a family who genuinely care about the place — because they do.
Book L'Oustau de Baumanière well in advance — it's closed Wednesdays and Thursdays, and tables go fast for a 3-star restaurant with a small room.
Why It Matters
Home to one of France's most storied 3-Michelin-star restaurants (L'Oustau de Baumanière), holder of 3 Michelin Keys for the hotel, and a Relais & Châteaux property with a guest list that spans Queen Elizabeth II, Pablo Picasso, Bono, Hugh Grant, and Jean Reno. The Michelin Guide reconfirmed the third restaurant star in March 2026.
Founded in 1945 by Raymond Thuilier in a rocky Provençal valley nicknamed 'Le Val d'Enfer' (Hell's Valley), Baumanière is a 5-star Relais & Châteaux spread across five historic buildings on a 20-hectare estate at the foot of Les Baux-de-Provence. The estate's centrepiece is L'Oustau de Baumanière, a 3-Michelin-star restaurant that first earned three stars in 1954 and has been pulling in royalty, writers, and film stars ever since. Each of the 53 rooms is unique, decorated by owner Geneviève Charial in a mix of Provençal warmth and contemporary restraint — antique furniture from Isle-sur-la-Sorgue alongside marble and waxed-paint bathrooms.
