Black Bass
Aquatic-modernist boutique. Lots of blue tones, graceful curves, and a design language borrowed from the freshwater bass itself — scales, ripples, fins. It's slick without feeling cold, and the lake setting keeps everything grounded.
Request a lake-facing room — the forest-view rooms are cheaper but you'll miss the view
Why It Matters
One of the most design-forward lakeside properties in the French Alps. Listed on both Tablet Hotels and the Michelin Guide selection. The father-son chef duo (Bernard and Brice Collon) running the fine dining room is a genuine draw. And Lake Annecy itself — subject of strict environmental protection since the 1960s — is as clear and clean as an Alpine lake gets.
A 5-star lakeside hotel on the shores of Lake Annecy — Europe's cleanest lake — in the village of Sévrier, about 5km south of Annecy's old town. The building is a modernist, 1980s reimagining of a chalet-style lodge: clean lines, blonde wood accents, aquatic blues, and curved architecture that references the fish it's named after. 25 individually designed rooms and suites all face either the lake or the forest, and the views are genuinely spectacular. Rooms sit in a 6,000 m² wooded park with direct access to the lakeside bike path.
