Boca de Agua Bacalar
Sustainable tropical modernism meets Japanese wabi-sabi sensibility. Raw wood, natural fibers, original artwork by Marina Silva, and a mostly brown-green-off-white palette. Quiet and deliberate — no TVs, no excess. The jungle is the décor.
Book the sunrise kayak tour — it runs at 5:30 AM and is complimentary for guests. Worth every early alarm.
Why It Matters
Michelin Key 2025 recipient. Designed by Frida Escobedo (one of Mexico's most celebrated architects). One of the only properties in Bacalar with a rehabilitated on-site mangrove ecosystem. Member of Design Hotels and featured in National Geographic and Time Magazine.
Boca de Agua is a design-driven eco-retreat sitting right on the Lagoon of Seven Colors in Bacalar. The 22 treehouse villas, designed by architect Frida Escobedo, rise on stilts among the jungle canopy — built with FSC-certified tropical hardwood, furnished by local artisans using recycled materials, and intentionally screen-free. The 82-acre property keeps 90% of its land untouched as a conservation zone, with a rehabilitated mangrove ecosystem, spider monkeys roaming the reserve, and a MBR water treatment plant so nothing ever reaches the lagoon.
