Why It Matters

Michelin Key 2025 recipient. Designed by Frida Escobedo (one of Mexico's most celebrated architects). One of the only properties in Bacalar with a rehabilitated on-site mangrove ecosystem. Member of Design Hotels and featured in National Geographic and Time Magazine.

Boca de Agua is a design-driven eco-retreat sitting right on the Lagoon of Seven Colors in Bacalar. The 22 treehouse villas, designed by architect Frida Escobedo, rise on stilts among the jungle canopy — built with FSC-certified tropical hardwood, furnished by local artisans using recycled materials, and intentionally screen-free. The 82-acre property keeps 90% of its land untouched as a conservation zone, with a rehabilitated mangrove ecosystem, spider monkeys roaming the reserve, and a MBR water treatment plant so nothing ever reaches the lagoon.

Treehouse Villa

Jungle Treehouse

A true treehouse at 45m², built around a living tree and elevated among the canopy. No pool — just you, the forest, spider monkeys, and toucans. Cross-ventilation replaces air conditioning when you choose, and an outdoor shower brings you closer to the elements. Original artwork from Marina Silva, furniture from Memo design studio made with recycled materials, Vivenda linens, Laguna Cyprien bath products, and a minibar stocked with Mexican gourmet products. The lagoon at Laguna Xulhá is a short jungle walk away. Intentionally screen-free.

Treehouse Villa with Private Pool

Master Pool Treehouse

The most expansive single-room villa at 75m², with a private 6.6m² plunge pool and a generous terrace wrapped in jungle canopy. Frida Escobedo's architecture rises on stilts with timber screens that play with light. Same artisan-made furnishings and Laguna Cyprien products as the Jungle Treehouse, but with considerably more space and that private pool. Walk the jungle trail down to the turquoise waters of Laguna Xulhá when the pool isn't enough. Sleeps 2. Intentionally screen-free.
