Vescine
Rural-luxe meets authentic Tuscan village life. The atmosphere is warm and communal rather than slick or corporate — events like the weekly Cena in Piazza and Cena in Uliveta pull guests together around shared tables. Décor leans classic country: handmade terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams, Tuscan artisan furnishings, and locally sourced bath amenities. Not a spa resort or a pool-and-cocktails property — it's a place for people who want to actually feel like they're living in Tuscany for a few days.
Book the Cena in Piazza (Friday) or Cena in Uliveta (Monday) when you reserve — these fill up and are the highlight of many guests' stays
Why It Matters
One of very few hotels in Chianti that occupies a complete medieval hamlet rather than a single converted farmhouse. The Lombard-era wine room (dated 1061 AD) hosts estate wine tastings. The property produces its own Chianti Classico, extra virgin olive oil, saffron, lavender, and honey. Recognised by Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels.
A former Lombard-era fortification perched 600 metres above the Chianti valley, Borgo Vescine spent centuries as a working peasant hamlet before owner Lucia Paladin restored it into a 28-room relais. The rooms are spread across the original stone buildings of the hamlet — former grain stores, olive-pressing rooms, and winemakers' cellars — connected by cobbled paths and centred on a piazza that still hosts communal dinners every Friday. The 42-hectare estate wraps around vineyards, century-old olive groves, saffron fields, and dense woodland; Siena is 20km away and Florence about 42km.
