Volkshaus Basel is a 45-room boutique hotel designed by Herzog & de Meuron, occupying a building with a layered history: once a castle, later a brewery, then a concert hall and office complex. The architects preserved the historic fabric while threading in custom-designed furniture, Belle Époque references, and contemporary art — the result is something genuinely singular in Switzerland. The hotel sits in the Kleinbasel district, a few minutes' walk from the Rhine and the Basel Trade Fair.
