Boutique Hotel Oche Selvatiche
Eco-boutique nature retreat. Low-key, unhurried, and genuinely wild at the edges — flocks of geese, flamingos, and swans are legitimate sightings. Rooms are modern and elegant without feeling corporate. The vibe is slow travel done right.
Use the binoculars left in every room — flamingos, wild geese, swans, and roe deer are regular sightings
Why It Matters
One of very few EU Ecolabel-certified accommodations in Italy. Michelin Key 'Selected' property. The building itself is a former coastguard barracks rebuilt using bio-architecture principles. The on-site Tarabusino restaurant is open to the public — and reachable by boat via the hotel's private dock. Binoculars are left in every room for birdwatching.
Seven rooms occupy a former Guardia di Finanza barracks that architect Adriana Paolini converted into one of Italy's most thoughtfully executed eco-boutique properties. Everything here — spruce pine wood paneling, recycled cardboard furnishings, natural textiles — was chosen deliberately. The hotel earned EU Ecolabel certification in 2022, and the difference shows: this isn't greenwashing, it's a genuine commitment baked into the structure itself. Sitting on the edge of the Grado lagoon, with the Valle Cavanata wildlife reserve 1.8km away and the Golf Club Grado just 250 meters from the front door, it's a Michelin Key-selected property that actually earns the designation. Seven rooms means real quiet. All of them face the lagoon.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Organized birdwatching tours with experienced guides and ornithologists, getting up close to the rich fauna of the Grado lagoon — wild geese, flamingos, swans, herons. Binoculars are also left in each room for independent birdwatching from the balcony or terrace.
The Valle Cavanata Regional Natural Reserve is 1.8km from the hotel — about a 20-minute walk. The reserve protects a rich wetland ecosystem. Trails also connect to the Isonzo river mouth area.
High-quality bicycles provided complimentary for rides through the surrounding lagoon landscape, nature reserves, and toward Grado town. Idyllic cycling and hiking trails run through the lagoon.
The 18-hole Golf Club Grado is 250 meters from the hotel. Guests regularly walk or cycle over. The hotel markets itself partly as a golf retreat.
The hotel can be reached — and the lagoon explored — by kayak, canoe, or rowing boat through the channels between Grado's islands. The private dock makes this easy to arrange.
Guided motorboat tours of the Grado lagoon with driver, arranged on availability. The hotel has a private dock. Guests can also rent boats independently — brought directly to the hotel's jetty.
