Boutique Hotel Torre di Cala Piccola
Rustic Mediterranean chic. Stone, terracotta, white fabrics, and handcrafted furnishings — the feel is warm and genuine rather than polished-resort. The property cascades down a hillside, so you walk narrow paths and stone stairways between a bar, pool, restaurant, and rooms scattered across different levels. Old-world glamour, not a slick contemporary makeover.
Book direct on the official site for a complimentary welcome drink and a free room upgrade on arrival (subject to availability).
Why It Matters
One of Monte Argentario's most storied cliff-perched hotels, with nearly 70 years of history, panoramic views across the Tuscan Archipelago to the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, and a restaurant open to non-guests. Access to a reserved partner beach club at the Cala Piccola cove — genuinely rare on this stretch of coast. The Michelin Guide describes it as 'one of the Mediterranean's most glamorous luxury retreats.'
Torre di Cala Piccola sits on a sheer cliff on Monte Argentario, 100 meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea, built around a 16th-century Saracen watchtower. The 53 rooms are spread across terraced gardens connected by narrow stone pathways, and the infinity pool is positioned so precisely at the cliff's edge that the water appears to merge with the sea below. It has been operating as a hotel for nearly seven decades — Liz Taylor and Richard Burton were among its early admirers. This is a genuinely atmospheric, village-like property where rooms are small by modern standards but the views more than compensate.
