Burghotel Staufeneck
Medieval castle meets modern luxury. Think earthy tones, king-size beds, panoramic windows over the Fils Valley, and two very different restaurants — one a formal Michelin-starred experience, the other a relaxed Swabian brasserie. Intimate scale: 43 rooms, 80 staff, family-run.
The fine dining RS runs Wed–Sat evenings only (May–Sep), with specific closure weeks — check dates before booking. Dinner is communal-start format: table seating from 6:30pm, all guests begin the Amuse Gueule together at 8pm.
Why It Matters
One of the few Michelin-starred castle hotels in Germany. The 11th-century fortress has been thoughtfully preserved — historic spaces in the Anselm-Schott-Haus sit alongside contemporary rooms — while the spa's heated outdoor infinity pool overlooks the Filstal valley. On a clear day, the fine dining restaurant has views all the way to Stuttgart airport and the TV Tower.
Burghotel Staufeneck is an 11th-century hilltop castle above the village of Salach, converted into a 5-star superior hotel by the Schurr and Straubinger families — now in their fourth generation of ownership. The 43-room property holds a Michelin-starred restaurant, a serious spa with a heated outdoor infinity pool, and some of the most unobstructed valley views in Baden-Württemberg. Stuttgart is 45 minutes away, but up here on the hill, you barely feel it.
