Cézanne
Contemporary Provençal boutique — warm, residential, and quietly elegant without being precious about it
Book the Deluxe room (22-27 m²) rather than the Classic (16-18 m²) if you plan to spend time in the room — the size difference is worth it
Why It Matters
One of the most well-located hotels in central Aix, with a century of history and a design sensibility that makes it stand out from generic French four-stars. The honesty bar concept — guests pour their own drinks and keep a tab — is genuinely rare. Selected by both Tablet Hotels and Les Collectionneurs.
The Boutique Hôtel Cézanne has been part of Aix-en-Provence for a century — a former family manor on a quiet side street, converted to a hotel in 1961 and sitting five minutes' walk from the Cours Mirabeau. Designer Charles Montemarco gave it a quietly confident look: Provençal ochers and linens with a contemporary edge, equally far from avant-garde design-hotel territory as it is from antique French inn territory. No pool, no dinner, no fuss — but 55 well-considered rooms, a legendary Provençal breakfast, and a self-serve honesty bar that runs on trust.
