Why It Matters
The founding property of the Canaves Collection and one of the first hotels to open in Oia back in 1985. The Chaidemenos family essentially helped define what a Santorini luxury hotel looks like today — all-white, minimalist cave suites with caldera views. The 2024 renovation stripped out the dated relics and delivered clean, contemporary interiors without losing the atmospheric cave architecture.
The original Canaves property — and the one that started it all. Built into 17th-century wine caves on the cliff edge of Oia, Canaves Ena first opened in 1985 and was fully renovated in 2024. The Chaidemenos family, who inherited the site from their grandparents, turned these yposkafa cave houses into guest accommodations at a time when almost no one else in Oia was doing it. Eighteen suites, all caldera-facing, all whitewashed and minimal, each slightly different because they were hand-carved from the rock. The River Pool Suite alone is worth the trip.

The largest option and the only one suited to small groups or families with teens. Spread across two levels — master bedroom with king bed on one level, second bedroom (king or twin) below, plus a separate living area that sleeps one more. Honeymoon Suite
Designed specifically for two. High-level placement for maximum privacy, a spacious terrace, and a double rain shower. Beautifully appointed with honeymoon amenities. No cave plunge pool at this tier, but the bathroom and terrace more than compensate.

The standout suite at Canaves Ena. The signature river-shaped plunge pool winds from inside the cave — vaulted ceilings, arched rock, atmospheric — out to an uncovered deck with jacuzzi jets and sun loungers.
