Cappuccini Resort
Contemplative monastery-chic. Stone floors, timber-beamed ceilings, soft lighting, antique religious artifacts mixed with modern touches. Very quiet. Very personal — Rosalba is often at the front desk. This is a place to slow down, not to be entertained.
Ask Rosalba for a personal tour of the buildings and grounds — she often gives them herself and the stories behind every detail are extraordinary
Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally authentic monastery conversions in northern Italy. The owner sourced original monastery doors discarded by other renovations, retained the 16th-century stone vaulting, and transformed the old water cistern into a wine cellar — now called 'Marco's Well' after her sommelier son, who is a Krug Ambassador. The Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels both list it. No brand affiliation beyond Tablet Hotels curation.
A 16th-century Franciscan convent turned boutique resort on the slopes of Monte Orfano in Italy's Franciacorta wine country. Owner Rosalba Tonelli Pelizzari purchased it in 1987 in total ruin — roof collapsed, abandoned for 60 years — and spent years on a meticulous philological restoration. The result is 14 rooms in former monks' cells, a serious restaurant with a wine cellar carved from the convent's original water cistern, and a small spa housed in the old concierge building down the hill.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Meeting rooms and banquet room available on site, including the converted monastery church for larger groups.
Bicycle hire available from the resort to explore Cologne and the surrounding Franciacorta countryside. The region is popular for cycling.
Walking trails on Monte Orfano directly from the resort grounds. The Parco Geologico del Montorfano is about 5km away.
The resort's hillside position in the heart of Franciacorta wine country puts it minutes from some of the region's finest producers. The annual Franciacorta Festival in mid-September sees wineries open for tastings, vineyard picnics and cellar tours. The resort can assist with arrangements.
Sommelier Marco Pelizzari (a Krug Ambassador) hosts tours of the resort's wine cellar, which is built into the convent's ancient stone rainwater cistern. Thousands of bottles including rare Franciacorta vintages and international labels. Ask at the front desk to arrange.
The resort's extensive grounds include blooming rose gardens, apple-tree orchards, an apple-tree labyrinth, olive groves, and a symbolic grove of cypress trees planted in the pattern of owner Rosalba's own heart ECG. Ask Rosalba for a personal guided tour — she often gives them herself.
The converted monastery church and outdoor terraces can be rented for weddings and private events. The property offers fairy-lit patios and a hilltop pool terrace for celebrations.
