Carmelo Resort & Spa
Boutique forest resort with strong Asian/Balinese design influences set in the Uruguayan countryside. Casual-elegant and very quiet. More cattle than paparazzi — this is deliberately not Punta del Este.
The 4x3 deal (stay 4 nights, pay 3) is the most practical way to stretch the value — book direct on the official site for best price.
Why It Matters
One of the only true luxury forest resorts in Uruguay's wine country. It has history behind it — a former Four Seasons and Hyatt property — plus its own working vineyard (Bodega Narbona), an award-winning holistic spa (Chandra), and a par-72 championship golf course. Condé Nast Traveller and Travel & Leisure have consistently ranked it among the top 10 resorts in Central and South America.
Forty-five hectares of pine and eucalyptus forest on the banks of the Rio de la Plata — that's what you're getting here. Carmelo Resort & Spa is Uruguay's answer to the countryside retreat, sitting in the country's wine-producing heartland with its own Narbona vineyards and a private beach. Originally opened as a Four Seasons, then absorbed into Hyatt's Unbound Collection, the property now operates independently. The design is an oddly compelling mix: hand-carved Balinese furniture, lapacho-wood four-poster beds, and a soaring granite fireplace in the lobby, all in the middle of the Uruguayan countryside.
