Why It Matters
IHG's first European Vignette Collection hotel. The building was rented in the 18th century by the Companhia Geral de Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro — now Real Companhia Velha — giving it a genuine port wine connection. The Wednesday and Saturday port fire-opening ritual is an actual piece of living history, not a gimmick.

The building dates to the 16th century and once served as headquarters for Real Companhia Velha, the historic port wine company.
