Why It Matters
Family-owned since 1916 and still run directly by owners Giuseppe and Charlotte Montani. The architect Liliana Sciacca designed the interiors; the lobby walls were hand-painted by Philippe Gandon. The building has real history and the property operates more like a curated private residence than a hotel — breakfast is delivered to your room on fine Ginori china, concierge is sometimes Giuseppe himself.
Casa Montani is a five-room luxury guesthouse on the third floor of a 1920s building directly facing Porta del Popolo and Piazza del Popolo. The Montani family has owned it since 1916 — Giuseppe's great-grandfather bought the place straight from the builder — and it's been run ever since as a very personal, owner-managed operation. Think less hotel, more staying with stylish Roman friends who happen to have impeccable taste.
