Opened by the team behind Barcelona's Casa Bonay, designed by Festen Architecture Paris, and built into a 17th-century palace next to Palma's Arab Baths. No pool, no spa brand, no conference rooms — just 13 beautifully crafted rooms and the kind of personal service that makes a large hotel feel like a private house.
Portella opened in early 2024 inside a 17th-century Mallorcan palace that was once home to Spanish figurative artist Joaquín Torrents Lladó. The building, with Arab and Baroque influences, holds 13 apartments and suites arranged around a planted central courtyard with a burbling fountain. Paris-based Festen Architecture (backed by local firm Gras Reynés) restored it — not into a glossy hotel, but into something closer to a private home. Lighting was hand-blown exclusively by the Gordiola family, Mallorca's glassmakers since 1719. It's unhurried, intimate, and design-forward without being precious about it.

The most storied room in the house. This two-bedroom apartment was the personal room of Spanish painter Joaquín Torrents Lladó, who lived here until his death in 1993. The private terrace looks directly over the lush Arab Baths next door. Both bedrooms have four-poster beds. There's a kitchenette and a large living area. Every detail selected by Studio Festen Paris. Simply the best address in the building.
