Casale Sterpeti
Quiet rural minimalism with a warm personal touch. Think low-key, deliberately unhurried — this is a place built around the philosophy of 'moderation as luxury'. Reclaimed materials, neutral tones, bespoke Tuscan artisan furniture, and big windows that let the landscape do the heavy lifting.

Why It Matters
Michelin Guide-selected and Tablet Hotels member. The eco-conscious renovation used bio-architecture, solar thermal heating, a pellet boiler, and rainwater recycling — genuine green credentials, not marketing. The property produces and sells its own extra virgin olive oil. Rated #1 B&B in Magliano in Toscana on TripAdvisor with a perfect 5/5 score across 149 reviews.
An abandoned Maremma farmhouse, completely rebuilt from the original rough-hewn stone and timber into a 9-room boutique hotel. The interiors strike an unusually restrained contemporary note — original wooden beams, restored terracotta tiles, local stone cladding — without leaning on farmhouse kitsch. Run personally by Simone and Irene, born-and-raised Maremma locals who are very much part of the experience. No restaurant, no pool, no spa. But the breakfast is genuinely exceptional, and the views across vineyards to the Mediterranean are hard to beat.

Casale Sterpeti is the starting point for cycling routes of varying difficulty on low-traffic roads, suitable for all levels. Both standard bikes and e-bikes are available to rent directly through the hotel. The hotel can also provide itinerary information or connect guests with local guided cycling tours.
The hotel books green fees and lessons at three nearby courses: Argentario Golf Club (18 holes, certified organic-ecological, overlooking the Orbetello lagoon and sea), Terme di Saturnia Golf Club (18 holes in typical Maremma landscape), and Tuscany Golf Club (18 panoramic holes, named one of Italy's top 10 courses in 2003). All within about 30 minutes by car.
The hotel works with VTC Talamone, a local boat rental company, to organize everything from small day-trip dinghies to multi-day sailboats with skipper. The stretch of coast from Talamone to Marina di Alberese is part of the Maremma Natural Park and is only accessible by sea — a genuine way to reach deserted beaches and pristine coves.
The hotel can book dives with the best local diving centers along the coast between Talamone and Monte Argentario.
Simone and Irene provide personalized recommendations for restaurants, beaches, medieval village walks, and seasonal events — compiled in a Welcome Book given to guests on arrival. They know this region deeply and share local-level insider knowledge, not tourist-board suggestions.
Cooking classes available on request, organized directly at the property. A chance to learn traditional Tuscan Maremma recipes using local and garden-fresh ingredients.
The hotel concierge arranges bookings at nearby wineries — including Tenuta dell'Ammiraglia (Frescobaldi), just 1.4 miles away. Many wineries host concerts and events on summer evenings. Aperitivo in the garden is also available with a curated local wine selection.
