Castel Porrona Relais & Spa
Medieval noble elegance meets warm Tuscan rustic. Think exposed wooden beams, terracotta, coordinated tapestry fabrics, antique furnishings, and the occasional four-poster bed — plus a Moroccan-themed spa that somehow fits perfectly.

Why It Matters
You are sleeping inside an actual working medieval village. Not a converted farmhouse, not a turreted folly — a full borgo where a handful of local residents still live. The castle can be rented entirely as a private residence with five suites, butler, and chef. The Agua Spa's 'wine therapy' baths use Brunello-region wines and local olive oils. There is nothing quite like it in the Maremma.
A 12th-century medieval borgo turned 5-star boutique hotel in the hills of Tuscan Maremma. The village of Porrona spent five centuries as property of two great Sienese noble families — the Tolomei and the Piccolomini — before passing to French aristocracy in 1894. Today its stone buildings, terraces, and squares have been restored into 25 individually designed rooms, suites, and apartments, all inside the original medieval complex. The centrepiece is the rentable castle itself, complete with butler, personal chef, and a panoramic tower.
