Why It Matters
One of the few operational castle estates in Tuscany with a history stretching to the Bronze Age. The property produces its own private-label wines ('Ulpaia', from 25+ acres of organic vineyards) and extra virgin olive oil (2,500 bottles annually). Also holds Italy's 'I Cieli più belli d'Italia' astrotourism certification. Every suite is different — no cookie-cutter rooms here.
A 10th-century medieval castle transformed into a 39-suite luxury resort on a 4,200-acre working farm estate in Tuscany. The site has roots going back to the Bronze Age — Etruscan artefacts are on display throughout — and the medieval castle at its centre was built in 998. The restoration used reclaimed materials from the estate itself: wood beams, ceramic tile, terracotta. It's genuinely remote, genuinely historic, and genuinely one of the more impressive Tuscany properties you'll find.
