Château de Courban
Country chic — think warm-toned, individually decorated rooms, antiques alongside contemporary touches, Italian-style gardens, and a family spirit that feels more lived-in estate than corporate hotel.
Book the Pigeonnier (dovecot) for the most memorable room — the side-by-side bathtubs on the first floor are a genuine talking point.
Why It Matters
The only 4-star hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant in the Champagne-Burgundy National Forest Park area. The dovecot suite (Le Pigeonnier), with its original 16th-century alcoves and famous side-by-side bathtubs, is one of the more genuinely unusual rooms in rural France.
A 19th-century château built in 1820 on the frontier between Burgundy and Champagne, owned since 1998 by the Vandendriessche family, who turned it first into a guesthouse, then a 4-star hotel. The house has a genuinely familial feel — locally sourced stone walls, log fires in the lounge, a piano by the bookcase — and pairs that warmth with a 1-Michelin-star restaurant and a full Nuxe spa. Rooms are scattered across the main manor, garden cottages, and a 16th-century dovecot.
