Château de Courcelles
Grand, formal French château with warm family-run personality. Think high ceilings, antique furnishings, authentic 17th-century décor, and a staff of 40 who genuinely care about the place. Old-world luxury — not a designer hotel.

Why It Matters
One Michelin star, Michelin Clef (Key) distinction, Relais & Châteaux member since 1992, Condé Nast Traveler Gold List 2018, and a cellar with 700+ wines and 150+ champagnes. Built in 1694 on the orders of a counselor to Louis XIV. The park — with its formal French garden, bicentennial plane trees lining a canal, a charmille maze, and a rose garden — is extraordinary.
A 17th-century Louis XIV château built between 1690 and 1694, sitting on 25 hectares of parkland about 1h15 from Paris and 30 minutes from Reims. Family-owned for 35 years and a Relais & Châteaux member since 1992, it holds a Michelin star for its restaurant La Table de Courcelles and earned a spot on Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List in 2018. The backstory is genuinely good: Christian Dior entertained guests here, Jean Cocteau allegedly designed the central staircase, and Voltaire, Rousseau, and Diderot all passed through in the 18th century.
